Glycolic Exfoliating Cleanser Helps Most Complex Skin Problems

By Joyce Nelson

Skin textures vary amongst individuals and there are many factors that can affect its overall condition. Age and environment can also determine what treatments work best, especially for those whose skin type is sensitive or problematic due to other factors, like exposure to the sun. Many are finding that using a glycolic exfoliating cleanser is one the easiest ways to alleviate things like acne scarring and large pores.

One common misconception about curing problems like dull skin or hyperpigmentation is the sloughing process. Unless done by a licensed esthetician or medical professional, not all home treatments or accessories are made equal. While it helps to follow directions carefully, users should also keep in mind that bringing unnecessary pressure to the face, or other area being treated, is not necessary.

In some cases, coarse granules or pads made from synthetic materials can make things worse. Although these may feel good or like a difference is being made, starting off gentle is the best measure. Some of these products that tend to do a little extra are best for occasional use, or as directed by a skin care professional.

Since the texture is not rough, it can also beneficial for those looking to shrink pores and other issues. Because most cleansers, unlike peels, are mild enough to use every day, there is little need to neutralize. However, those with dry skin may want to have a moisturizer on hand in order to prevent excess peeling.

While most products may contain between 20-30% of actual glycolic acid, having a mild soap and baking soda nearby for each peeling session is important. Users with dry or sensitive skin will want to add a moisturizer to their routine. For those who may not care to do this more than a few times a week, a cleanser is ideal for daily use, as repeated applications usually make a difference.

While few can get away with rinsing peel solution with water only, having a diluted baking soda is highly recommended. Products that contain more than thirty percent of acid can have a drying effect or, in some cases, burn the skin slightly. Most users who have had success with using home peeling products to lessen the look of scars or wrinkles find that having an aloe vera moisturizer is the best way to bring back natural skin hydration.

Hydration is also important to maintain a clear complexion. Besides drinking more water, foods with high alkaline content can also benefit the skin and digestive systems. Beans, fresh produce without added sugar or salt can offer many health benefits. Since digestion plays a strong role in the skin system, switching from white flour to grains can also help with making the complexion even and smooth. Some health experts even link excessive sugar consumption to acne breakouts.

Another pointer is for those who like to bathe in the sun regularly, even if it does not entail being stretched out on a favorite lounger. Most products containing alpha hydroxy acid tend to make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure. Experts recommend that sunblock is used immediately after treatment, even on days that are overcast or the user is outdoors for a short time.
