The Advantages Of Handmade Wood Furniture

By Jeffrey Stone

Furniture is not what it used to be in the old days when solid wood was handcrafted to create them. This has been caused by the increased demand for fittings leading to the development of cheaper ways of producing them. These new ways of creating furniture involve the use of manufactured wood and machines making fittings. This increases the production level to meet the demand. This article will discuss the benefits of handmade wood furniture.

Solid handcrafted timber fittings are more durable that industry made fittings. Industries aim is profit making and not the durability of products they make. Thus, the fittings produced in industries are made of low quality manufactured timber that is not created to last. Fittings made from solid timber are very strong and durable that can be passed down to generations still in perfect condition.

Cost saving, in the long run, is also associated with the use of handcrafted solid timber furnishes. Manufactured furnishes are not durable creating need to be replaced from time to time. This may prove to be more expensive than anticipated as the cost of acquiring new furnishing every time is very high. However, handcrafted fittings may be expensive in the short run but end up being economical in the long run.

Handcrafted furnishings can be customized to fit into client's preference and tastes. This is an important benefit because a client gets what they want and they do not worry about finding the same type of furnishings elsewhere as they are unique. Industrially manufactured furnishings are always the same and there is a high probability of finding the same type elsewhere only differentiated by color or pattern.

Handcrafted solid timber furnishes are environmentally friendly and sustainable. Their ability to last for long reduces wastage and pilling up of disposed unwanted furnishes that are worn out taking up a lot of space. When handcrafted furnishes wear out, solid timber used to make them may be recycled but materials used in making manufactured furnishes are of low quality and cannot be recycled.

The use of handcrafted furniture promotes the flow of income and resources within a society. Many solid timber furnishings are made by local artisans within the society thus money paid for furnishes remains within the society. This is a good way to support local industries and the community at large. In addition, cost of transporting furnishes is greatly reduced because the distance to clients' homes is not very far.

Handcrafted solid timber fittings require minimal energy in making them. Manufactured fittings require a lot of energy from either coal, nuclear or natural gas to produce. This is a very important benefit because the amount of energy required making handcrafted furnishings is very minimal and friendly to the environment. It does not involve emission of any harmful gases to the environment.

Use of handcrafted solid timber furnishes creates a class of craftsmen in a society with very high skills. This is an important gain for a society because it creates a heritage of craftsmanship that is passed down to generations. This becomes a pride of the society and a development pillar.
