By Edward Ward

Teaching toddlers the alphabets and how to count is not a difficult process before they enter a preschool for all schools San Francisco location. In fact, it can be quite fun and entertaining for you and your little one. Most toddlers begin recognizing the alphabets and numbers by the age of two and three. By the age of four and five, they usually can identify all of the letters and some numbers. This means you can start teaching your little one at any time you feel they are up for the challenge.

Count everything out to your toddler. While preparing meals or making snacks, sort and count out certain foods. Veggie sticks and fruit are perfect for this type of exercise. Sing songs such as 'One Two Buckle My Shoe' or 'One For You and Two For Me' to get them motivated and interested in singing along.

Start the reading process with short books. Books that might take about five to ten minutes to read in the beginning. You have to remember, most children have short attention spans and will not be able to in one place too long. Most alphabet books are great to start the reading and learning process. Your child can learn their letters and certain objects or animals that begin with that alphabet.

Purchase cheap learning tools to help with the learning process. There are many great items that can be bought inexpensively. Items that really help young children include alphabet cards, number cards, learning blocks, magnets that are placed on refrigerators and charts. Your child will get a kick out of using these items each day and you will most likely enjoy seeing their daily enthusiasm.

Make up your own learning games at home. Little ones love being praised and rewarded. Create learning games using the alphabets. Show the toddler the letter 'A' and then tell them, 'A' is for apple. Show them a picture of an apple. You can purchase toy fruit, vegetables, and toys as a learning tool. Not only will they be learning the alphabet but they will be learning different types of foods and objects as well. The game can be played with any other items of your choice.

When you are out and about throughout the day, point out different objects which begin with the alphabet that is familiar to them. Remember to sound out letters to the child in hope of teaching them phonics awareness. Usually, if a child does not learn from an early age to enjoy reading, it could hinder them in years to come in their ability down the road.

Ask other family members to help with teaching your child how to read and count. Although they might not be as devoted to the process as you will be, they can still help when they have the time or just engaging with your little one. Ask family members to read a book to your child or take them on learning walk on the outside where they point out different objects and sound out letters of the alphabet to them. Most family members are usually quite helpful when they know what you are trying to accomplish.

There are many ways to continue the reinforcement of identifying the alphabets and numbers. Continue the use of books, alphabet refrigerator magnets, personalized toys, and puzzles with alphabets and numbers on them. Also, put letters on the child's door that spell out their name.
