Children who grow up without learning some etiquette often have a hard time socializing with the rest due to them not providing a pleasant company. No parent would want their child to be called ill-mannered, however, adults have a great impact to how the children will behave when they are in the homes of other people. This is because children spend most of their development stages in the presence of their parents and sibling at home. It is easier for them to pick up the habits that people around them have. This should make adults be keen on their behavior.

Introducing good manners to your children starts from the basic steps of proper hygiene. Children should be taught the importance of freshening up before they sit on the dining area. This means they need to take a quick shower before breakfast or dinner and wash their hands after visiting the toilet, before and after every meal.

At the dining area, the child should be taught proper etiquette on how to eat. It is often a disgusting habit when one talks whilst having food in the mouth or to rudely interrupt a person who is already talking. At a young age, children have to be taught the importance of chewing stand eating while their mouths are closed and learn when to speak and when not to. This makes them to be pleasant to be around with.

The use of napkins also has to be well taught to young ones. They should be showed how to use them, where to place them before and after they are done using them in every meal. It is also wise to teach children to wait for every member of the person to settle first, get served then eat. The time set out for meals is meant to be done together hence the need for the children to learn how to wait and only eat after everyone has served his or her plate.

The children should also learn on proper sizes of food to cut when eating. Teach them to use cutlery properly and know the correct size of food to put into their mouth. Let them not stuff in too much food as it will be hard for them to chew. If the food is too hot, they ought to wait till it cools down and not have a tendency of blowing over it.

Habits such as reaching out for food bowls or salt across the table is unacceptable. It is often rude to pass your hand over the plate of the person sitting beside you. Adults should remind the children that they have to get used to the habit of asking the next person to pass whatever he or she wants from the other side of the surface. They should also be taught how to be calm while eating and not being fidgety or making movements.

They should also pick up good habits such as offering help to clear the dishes after the meal or preparing the table before the meal. This will give them a sense of responsibility and will teach them to be neat and considerate.
