Ghost folklore has been predominant for ages, and filmmakers are making a killing out of some of the most renowned horror stories. Texas holds a reputation for being a highly visited place by chasers of ghost sightings. It is well known for the San Antonio hauntings, with a plethora of tourists regularly flocking the many haunted sites in the area.

Alamo has a pretty big reputation in this regard. Accounts state that shortly after the Battle of Alamo, many of the residents began to sight apparitions of dead locals. There has been no end to these tales since then. The locals consider it the most haunted place in the whole of San Antonio.

The downtown region also has a vibrant history of haunted hotels. Top haunted establishments in this region include the Crockett, St. Anthony, Sheraton Gunter, Menger and Emily Morgan hotels.

Of all the inns in town, the Holiday Inn Express has a peculiarly morbid reputation. A curious sense of foreboding creeps through you as you walk into the reception area. Prior to being converted into an inn, it served as the county jail.

A plethora of its staff members and guests have reported strange occurrences on numerous occasions. When in your room, you get the eerie sensation that you are being watched. Many guests have reported seeing doors and windows open and shut on their own. Besides this, there have been odd apparitions captured on CCTV footage.

The Spanish Governors Residence is another historically haunted site. Just staring at the building from the outside gives one the creeps. It has served many purposes since its construction. Besides being used as a military fortification during the Alamo Battle, it housed lots of shops and an execution arena.

Its hallways and outdoors are supposedly roamed by the spirits of young kids. There is talk of a past murder victim haunting the site as well. These tales point to the fact that people will continue believing in the afterlife and reincarnation, just as their ancestors did. The onus is on you to verify if the said claims are facts or the stuff of legend.

Another interesting place is the San Fernando Cathedral. One cannot fail to notice it when in town. It is the oldest landmark around. The Gothic architecture it embodies only accentuates its eerie nature. Lone worshipers often report being stalked by ghostly figures. This is even frightening to think about.

An urban legend abounds from the local railroad tracks. The tracks cut across Shane Road. The legend talks of ghosts forcing parked cars onto the tracks. Stories of ghostly nuns and childlike apparitions are also predominant.

Complete your tour with a visit to the abandoned Midget Mansion. It has a tragic history that dates back to the 1920s. Neighbors often talk of hearing people screaming inside it at night. Local lore has it that Satanists practice rituals in it from time to time.
