Locating Great Mexican Food Houston TX

By Dorothy Olson

Not withstanding the recent effects of Hurricane Harvey, Houston still has a lot to offer in the way of ethnic cuisine. Mexican Food Houston TX is no exception. For, there are a number of different Mexican restaurants in all areas of the city. For example, Jalisco offers authentic styles in the Montrose, others host Mexican seafood in the Historic Heights with several Tex-Mex fast food and dine-in restaurants gracing other areas of the city.

Whether perusing the historic Houston Heights, attending an art opening in the Warehouse District, going to a local book or magic store in the Montrose or hanging downtown for a free concert, there is no shortage of great restaurants in the area. For example, the Warehouse District is home to Last Concert Cafe, a rather historic Mexican restaurant, building and venue. While having won a number awards for having the best Mexican cuisine in the city, the restaurant also host live music most nights of the week.

The owner also produces a number of touring concerts and special events throughout the year. Some of these include local benefits, Halloween, New Year's Eve and an annual Watermelon festival each Summer. As the owner also works as a caterer, the food and drink at these and other events are often some of the best in the city.

At other times, the local community can be found hosting a number of benefits at the location. Whether that be for an individual in need, or for those recovering from a natural disaster, the restaurant has been a mainstay for those wishing to help others. In addition, a local radio station has also been known to host a number of benefits at the venue.

Whereas, another local band Potroast has just celebrated a 20th year anniversary. While the Hightailers crowd was much more of a hippie crowd, Potroast seems to draw more college age fans. While those playing on other nights tend to change more frequently, the owner and management staff have always been open to those wishing to play a residency given the right opportunity.

Located in the Warehouse District which has recently gone through somewhat of a regeneration, the establishment has quite an interesting history. In the beginning, the building served as a brothel which was often visited by a local judge. To assure discretion, patrons had to knock on the red door to gain entry. As such, the restaurant still ask patrons knock on the red door to gain access by the doorman or other employees before entering the building. Although, there is now a side gate to the large outdoor area which serves as an alternative entry during special events.

While an outstanding music venue, the restaurant is also rated as one of the best Mexican food restaurants in the city. While open most days, it is important to call and verify hours. For, the venue has been known to close occasionally though rarely at various times throughout the year.

When bellying up to the bar, individuals can either try a frozen sangria from a machine or one of the many amazing handmade cocktails by one of the bartenders. While there are a number of restaurants and bars in the area, the food, drink and entertainment at Last Concert is something that should not be overlooked.
