The Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms Hudson County

By Charles Jones

The debate over whether school uniforms are a good or bad idea is a hot topic that has raged on for decades. As with most things, there are two sides to the story, but most schools across the world tend to agree that the pros of having a standardized uniform far outweigh the cons. However, both arguments have experts on their side and make valid points. Here is a summary of the pros and cons of school uniforms Hudson County.

Advantages of uniforms- Schools facing discipline problems are now opting for attire as a part of their strategies to make their college progress. Here are some of the benefits that colleges may enjoy on adopting a uniform policy:

In the United States, public colleges do not have strict uniform mandates but rely on "dress codes" which dictate what cannot be worn, like revealing clothes or clothes with rude slogans or promotion of alcoholic and tobacco brands. Most private colleges do, however, enforce the compulsory wearing of regalia.

Equality Among Students - Another advantage of attire is that it promotes a sense of equality among students. Since everyone wears the same dress; students won't be able to differentiate themselves by clothes. As a result, students won't feel the pressure to buy luxurious clothes. Thus, a positive environment of friendship is created.

Studies have also been done to look at the connections between the lack of a compulsory college uniform and college violence. The results have proven that there is a greater inclination towards college violence in students who choose to dress in clothes mimicking gang-related clothing. Other studies have shown that some students who wear expensive clothes can also be the targets of violence and in some cases, murder. Students who go to colleges which have a higher violence level are shown to be less inclined to go to college and even resort to truancy to avoid being victimized.

Cons- Many experts feel that the biggest drawback for children who are made to wear a uniform is that their self-expression is stifled. They believe that curbing individuality in young children can be detrimental to their development. Experts also believe that forcing each child to fit into a specific mold effectively strips away their individuality, not celebrating diversity as they should be.

There are a similar number of reasons of people fighting to abolish or prevent the enforcement of college regalia in colleges. Some even stating that college regalia violate the freedom of expression of the students. The decision is largely subjective and more parent involvement is indeed required in such large decisions.

The oldest complaints against academy uniforms have been that the students would lose their individuality. But what kind of individuality students are trying to build by flaunting their fancy shoes, branded clothes or backpacks. Individuality and personality are developed with the maturing of ideas and credos. This is an important lesson which must be taught at schools.
