A lawyer generally practices law. They use this knowledge to solve specific individualized problems. They can also use their knowledge to advance the interests of those who hire them to perform legal services. Their roles vary across different jurisdictions. A jurisdiction being a geographical area to which a particular authority applies. Most jurisdictions draw their substance from public law, conflict laws and constitutional law. There are many kinds of lawyers include international trade lawyer and litigation attorney.

Lawyers have many responsibilities. This include oral arguments in the courts. They argue out a client case before the judge and sometime the jury. They therefor represent the client and speak on their behalf. Since they are more familiar with the court custom and procedures they make the legal process to run efficiently for the parties involved on both sides.

Parties that are not represented by legal council have the potential of ruining their own credibility in court. They also slow down court processes. Lawyers are responsible for searching and drafting court papers. Before arguments are argued before the court, they are presented to the judge in advance. For a well prepared argument, intensive and extensive research is needed.

The responsibility of these professionals includes ensuring good relationship with their clients. Before anything happens, they meet with their clients. This helps them know them personally and know the facts of their cases. It also helps them to come up with many defenses and claims. After meeting the client and taking up their case, other issues including payment are discussed so that work can start officially.

Legal advice is the application of abstract principles of law to the concrete facts of a case. This is done in order to advise the client about what they should do next. Lawyers have a responsibility of offering legal advice to the client. In some countries only licensed lawyers are allowed to provide legal advice to people and it may be a crime if conducted by unlicensed lawyers.

Lawyers take care of intellectual property too. Examples of such property include building designs, patents and trademarks. Intellectual property is only offered protection if it is registered by the government in question. Licensed or unlicensed lawyers can do the work depending on the jurisdiction or a country.

They can also negotiate on the drafting of contracts. This always involve two or more parties. The contracts may be involving a business deal, family issues concerning child support or inheritance. It may also concern company settlement issues. Lawyers help the parties to solve their deal outside court to save on money and time. The facts discussed are drafted and signed. This document is usually legal and binding to the parties involved.

They are also involved in convenience. Conveyance is the drafting of documents necessary for transference of real property from one party to another. Such properties include deeds and mortgages. They also carry out the intent of the deceased. Lawyers are supposed to uphold the rules governing a country and practice them to the end. But in some cases they can be corrupt thus ensuring justice is not served to the parties involved.
