Pertinent Information Regarding New York Propane

Liquefied petroleum gas, better known as propane, is becoming more and more popular as the years go by. While propane once seemed to be a more likely fuel source for people in very rural areas, these days you see propane tanks popping up in yards all over the country. In fact, at least 4 million households in New York use propane and there are plenty of good reasons to make the switch.

Many people are not aware that their New York propane is a clean fuel. Propane is not considered a greenhouse gas and will not harm the environment if it leaks Natural gas, on the other hand, is very dangerous if it leaks. Coal and burning wood likewise are damaging to the environment, so propane just makes good sense from an environmental standpoint.

There are other reasons why propane can be a great option. For instance, if you purchase propane when the New York propane prices are very low then this fuel can be extremely affordable. Prices tend to be at their best during the summer, when the demand is a tad lower. Additionally, propane can be used to power virtually every type of home appliance, so using propane definitely reduces your dependency on the grid. If the electricity goes out during a blizzard, you can still heat your home and cook, and this is a huge plus for propane.

Once you have settled on the fact that you want to use New York propane as your fuel source, you will need to call a propane company and have a spokesperson come out and assess your yard and your propane needs. With this person, you can discuss everything from tank size to New York propane prices. Your yard also will be examined to determine which type of tank will be best, such as the size and whether or not you prefer an underground tank or above-ground and there are advantages and disadvantages to each of these options.

New York propane tanks come in many different sizes. Typically the sizes that work best for a private home would be the 250-gallon propane tank, the 320-gallon tank, the 500-gallon tank and the 1,000-gallon tank. With the 1,000-gallon tank, you definitely will need to have a larger yard, as these tanks measure 16' long with a 41" diameter. The 320-gallon and 500-gallon tanks are both 10' long and the 250-gallon tanks are only about 7.5 feet long.

Not all sizes of tanks are ideal for every yard. Keep in mind that your delivery person must be able to access the tank when bringing your propane, so the tank will have to be placed in a very specific location. The number of people living in the home and the number of appliances that will use New York propane also will be factored into the equation when contemplating the best tank options for purchase or for lease.
