The Significance Of Sensory Therapy ADHD

By Debra Scott

Every day in our lifetime many children are born by mothers. Every parent is excited to have a healthy child, but it is not easy to know whether their children are healthy. When children are growing, there are some who are found with Attention Deficit Hyper-activity Disorder. This is a condition in which symptoms show at the early stage of a child which include hyper-activity, impulsiveness, restlessness and constant fidgeting. This piece highlights more on sensory therapy ADHD.

This condition is unmanageable to find hence require keen observation by the parents and its necessary to take a child for diagnosis. If a child is diagnosed with this condition, sensory attention therapy is recommended. An occupational therapist is the professionals who will help the child address the condition thus helping them attend and learn how to interact with the environment. There are several programs and activities that an occupational therapist provide.

The specialist has a responsibility of helping the kid to improve the transmission of neurological brain signals around the area. Provision of auditory, proprioceptive and vestibular inputs help in achieving this. Recreational and therapeutic material such as toys and balls are used to provide the above inputs. Behavior modification, lifestyle changes, counseling, and medication, are key pillars in the treatment.

The affected child is always taught how to regulate themselves personally. The achievement of this is brought by involving the kid in tasks that will bring their brain performance up and down according to their needs. Bright lights, toys and dancing help in stimulating slow brain performance of a toddler thus reducing restlessness and making the concentration span of a child increase dramatically.

The specialist can also implement activities which help the child with a hyper-reactivity to cool down. This includes listening to cool music, dime lights, singing lullabies and ball squeezing activities. The above activities help the child to feel relaxed, and this can help a kid who is always constant in motion. The toddler who complies with the given tasks must be rewarded thus encouraging it.

The specialist has also designed a sensory menu which will provide a kid with the type of stimulation that they need to remain vigilant and able to learn throughout the day. The activities involve movement activities such as jumping on a trampoline, carrying books, chairs, and heavy school bags. Other activities include wearing weighted vests for short periods of time playing tug of war or using a scooter board.

This treatment is done with regular reviews of a child progress amending the therapy activities. The amendment is done to ensure the brain becomes more organized at different times of the day. Gum can also be provided to the child to overcome restlessness. Most of these activities are incorporated in the school day and home to ensure the toddler remains focused in learning. Parents and teachers should also be involved in the process since they spend most of their time with the toddler.

Therefore, it is essential to ensure a child with such conditions to be taken to auricular therapy. This process helps the child to relate to the environment and people effectively. Since the amount of research regarding the effectiveness of the treatment is limited and inconclusive, it is essential for the parents to know. Pediatricians and other clinicians should discuss, inform and teach parents on how to evaluate the process.
